My Role as a Modern-Day Feng Shui Consultant
Introduction to Feng Shui and My Journey
As children, we’re often asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” When I was ten years old, my answer was interior designer. Even then, I was hyper-attuned to my environment, sensitive to the energy in a space, and naturally inclined to organize and tidy my surroundings. Today, I understand that these instincts were part of my life’s purpose.
I have always had a keen awareness of energy—both positive and negative—in my surroundings. In ancient Chinese culture, this sensitivity was recognized by metaphysicians, particularly practitioners of Feng Shui. Feng Shui is an ancient practice designed to create harmony and balance in a space, enhancing well-being and positive outcomes. As a feng shui consultant, I help clients optimize the flow of Chi (life force energy), work with the five elements (wood, fire, earth, metal, and water), and create spatial arrangements that foster balance and vitality.
The Chinese characters for Feng Shui translate to “wind-water,” elements essential to life. Symbolically, wind represents thought, and water represents emotion—together, they are dual catalyzing forces that move, shape, and transform our reality. This understanding aligns with other esoteric traditions, such as Kabbalah, which view thought and emotion as the foundational tools of the magician for manifestation. In this way, Feng Shui is not just about physical arrangement; it’s about understanding the quality, quantity, and movement of Chi, the energy that shapes all life.
From these perspectives, I offer Feng Shui consulting services aligned and tailored to those seeking greater balance, prosperity, and harmony in their homes and businesses as well as those open and ready for a holistic approach that is very much about personal responsibility and active participation in the energetic process of change and transformation. The Modern Energetics Problem
Today, particularly in the West, urban design often neglects energetic balance. While we’ve mastered structural engineering and technological advancements, we’ve also created environments that disrupt the natural environment and energy flow. Power lines, skyscrapers, highways, and artificial materials interfere with the earth’s natural rhythms, contributing to physical and mental imbalances as well as infrastructure that leads to environmental degradation - rather than regeneration. Cities and their urban sprawl are often chaotic or stagnant, filled with what Feng Shui calls Sha Chi—destructive, harmful energy.
While death and decay are natural parts of life, modern urban planning has unconsciously created an overabundance of negative energy. In contrast, nature generates what is referred to as Sheng Chi, or life-enhancing energy, through organic movement and balance. As a feng shui consultant, I help clients restore this balance in their indoor and outdoor spaces as environs that nurture lives to fluorish.
How Feng Shui Can Address Modern Challenges
Rearranging furniture alone won’t solve life’s challenges, but the spaces where we live, work, and rest deeply impact our well-being. When we recognize that energy and matter are two sides of one coin, we can grow our awareness to optimize and harmonize both. The energy in our homes influences our sleep, creativity, relationships, and financial success. A cluttered, stagnant space proliferates stress, lack, and dis-ease, while a balanced, harmonious environment cultivates mental clarity, productivity, inspiration, and ease.
A feng shui consultant helps clients implement practical strategies to improve energy flow, such as:
Enhancing natural light and airflow
Removing obstacles that block Chi
Incorporating the five elements for balance
Creating command positions for beds and desks
Decluttering and refreshing stagnant spaces
These changes may seem simple, but they create a profound energetic shift that supports health, happiness, and abundance.
My Holistic Approach to Feng Shui
True Feng Shui transformation is not just about the physical environment—it’s also about personal growth and progression. As the ancient axiom states: "As Above, So Below; As Within, So Without." Optimizing home energy requires and up-leveling of our inner balance and alignment as well. That’s why my role as a feng shui consultant extends well beyond spatial design; I also provide personal development coaching, personal readings, and energetic activation and healings to support my clients’ personal evolution.
I’ve trained in both western and eastern esoteric traditions, have a breadth of knowledge about the spiritual awakening process as well as both physical- and soul-based healing journeys and am a trauma-informed healer. I have also lived and evolved through a significant mental health and personal integration journey myself. I’ve trained as a quantum energy healer and psychic intuitive since 2014 and have studied and worked with Hermetics, Kabbalah, Alchemy, and western herbalism for over a decade.
Ultimately, as a Feng Shui practitioner, I take a holistic approach to energetics. I work within tradition by incorporating ancient wisdom and tools along with practical and intuitive solutions tailored to my clients’ needs. Whether you’re looking to enhance the energies of prosperity, improve relationships, foster wealth, resolve negative energetics issues, progress in a career or life purpose direction, or simply create a more peaceful environment, I guide you through an intuitive and structured process to achieve results. 5 Basic DIY Feng Shui Tips for a Healthy, Harmonious Home
1. Optimize Your Outdoor Environment
Believe it or not, the quality of the energy within your home is primarily influenced by the energy in the outside environment. Keep your yard tidy, maintain healthy plants, and ensure entranceways are clear and fluid. The front and back doors are especially important, as they are the primary entry points for Chi. Consider working with a landscape designer to enhance energy flow in your outdoor space. I’ve been a professional horticulturalist and landscape designer myself for over 20 years and offer these services to my Feng Shui clients as well when desired. Here are some links for more information on my energetics approach to working on the land, my work in landscape design, and to view my designer’s portfolio.
2. Balance Your Entranceways
In Feng Shui your home’s entrance should give the impression of welcome, balance, beauty, and prosperity. If overgrown plants or clutter block the path, clear them out and trim them back. If the entryway feels too stark or exposed, add some nice ceramic or aesthetically-pleasing pots or containers in warm hues (red, orange, pink) or other vital colors to soften and attract positive Chi. Then plant them with your favorite flowers or perennial plants - and make sure to water and tend them well! There’s an entire art form to container gardening alone - so if there’s any question on how to go about this sort of Feng Shui solution ask your consultant for input or even better get the advise of a professional horticulturalist. I myself worked as a professional landscaper with container gardening for many years and in my different home environments including 3-story apartments. These simple, small flourishes can have big impact.
3. Refresh Indoor Air and Energy
Out with the old, in with the new fresh air! In Feng Shui, Chi is also referred to as “life breath”. In Chinese metaphysics, particularly the practice of qi gong, its acknowledged we acquire the majority of our own personal Chi from the food we eat and the air we breathe. Indoor air quality (or lack thereof) also significantly impacts the Feng Shui of an indoor environment. Studies from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) show that indoor air pollution is often 2-5 times higher than outdoor levels. All of this is why optimizing the quality of own health and wellness translates directly to the quality of the air we breathe. So, open doors and windows regularly to allow fresh air and Chi to circulate throughout your home, studio, or workplace. During colder months, open things up briefly at the warmest part of the day (if you can), otherwise use air purifiers and houseplants to maintain the best indoor air quality possible.
4. Care for Your Houseplants
Healthy, happy plants translates to a healthy, happy home. Healthy plants contribute to positive energy, while dying plants can stagnate it. Choose plants suited to your home’s light and humidity conditions and care for them properly. Use well-draining soil and organic fertilizers, and establish a consistent watering schedule. And if stuck or at a loss with houseplants consult your local plant nursery staff or someone like myself who is a “green-thumb” horticulturalist and Feng Shui consultant. Maintaining thriving indoor greenery contributes to air quality, positive ions, and positive energies.
5. Smudging and Space Cleansing
To smudge or not to smudge, is there any question? There is a trending fad with the practice of plant smudging. However, this sacred method for cleansing and purification has been practiced by shamanic traditions for thousands of years all around the world. Whether of wood, leaf, smudge stick, resin or incense smudging with the smoke of medicinal plants like white sage, palo santo, cedarwood, sweetgrass, frankincense, or tobacco can help clear stagnant energy, particularly after emotional events. Also know that ultimately smudging is a light energetic practice and not a cure-all for significant energetic issues in the home or personally. I do a spectrum of home cleansing and personal clearing work that is grounded in lineage training and am happy to consult to see what the appropriate solution may be.
